Dear Neighbor:

I’m excited to share that I’m running for a seat on the Rollingwood City Council in the upcoming November 5, 2024, election!

As we enter election season, you may have seen my campaign yard signs with the words: Experience, Connection, Community. Here’s why these values are important to me:

Experience

  • Locally, I served on the Rollingwood City Council from 2013-2015 and 2018-2021, and Rollingwood Parks Commission from 2015-2018.  In the Westbank area, I served as an Ex Officio member of the Westlake Chamber of Commerce from 2019-2021.

  • Regionally, I’m currently the Travis County Representative to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO).  In 2023, I served as an appointee of Travis County Commissioner Ann Howard to the Travis County Citizen Bond Advisory Committee, which recommended a voter-approved $500+ million bond package.

  • I’m a graduate of Westlake High School, earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from UT Austin, and received my law degree from Baylor Law School.

  • Professionally, I’ve successfully managed my own law firm, focusing primarily on patent law. Since the pandemic, I’ve also helped manage my husband’s event fabrication company.

I am passionate about making government more accessible and positive for everyone.  I hope to put this passion back to work for Rollingwood by serving on the City Council again.

Connection

During my previous time on the Council, I made it a priority to build strong relationships with other officials at all levels - local, state and federal.  While Rollingwood works hard to independently manage its small-town identity and standing, our proximity to Austin means we share resources and face regional challenges like traffic, water sourcing, power, telecommunications, and roadway safety. For example, during the 2021 winter ice storm, I used these connections to communicate directly with Council members in the City of Austin’s emergency control center to advocate for expedited power restoration to Rollingwood’s critical sewer infrastructure, which at the time did not have backup generators.

Additionally, during my previous Council terms, I worked to build alliances for Rollingwood with a wide network of officials, business leaders, and transportation board members to push for design improvements on the Mopac South Environmental Study.  CTRMA just announced the next Open House #6 for the Mopac South Environmental Study, set to open November 12, 2024.  We need Council leadership ready to actively engage with the Mopac South Environmental Study as the next round of public comment opens. This includes advocating for Rollingwood's best interests of Rollingwood, working with the City's Mopac Task Force, activating residents and businesses to participate, and building on current and new alliances to address shared issues effectively.

Community

Rollingwood is a community that was founded on a strong ethos of volunteerism to support its City government, along with the activities and park spaces that make Rollingwood so special.  When I first joined the Rollingwood City Council in 2013, I gained a seat in an uncontested election.  My basic goal then, and the same goal I have today, is to be a friendly, welcoming face for community members who come to participate in meetings.

We are stronger as a community when our public spaces are inviting and when all residents feel welcomed to contribute and hold leadership accountable for choices that impact our quality of life, public safety, and property values.  Solving the issues most important to our community requires leadership that is willing to hear diverse views and treat each neighbor as a collaborator in finding the solutions that are in the best interests of Rollingwood residents.  For more on this, please see a note I’ve written on the importance I place on fostering community spaces within Rollingwood.

A few additional notes for the upcoming election:

Please make a plan to vote

Early voting starts soon, running from Monday, October - November 1, 2024, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024.  You can vote in the Rollingwood City Council election at the Randall’s on Bee Caves and all other Travis County election centers, with more info about hours and locations here.

With this being a presidential election year, voter turnout is usually higher, and I encourage everyone to plan ahead and make sure you vote!

You Get to Vote for 2 Candidates

The Rollingwood City Council election is an at-large election where you'll have the opportunity to vote for up to two candidates from among four candidates on the ballot.  The top two vote-getters will win the election - there is no run-off - so every vote in this election counts the first round.  The Rollingwood City Council election will be lower on your ballot - so please be sure to vote the whole ballot - all the way to Amy Pattillo (rhymes with Armadillo).

If you'd like to connect before you vote to share thoughts or ask questions, please reach out. I'll also be participating in the candidate forum this Thursday, November 17, at 6pm at Rollingwood City Hall.

Warmly,

Amy Pattillo
